Shafts of sunlight spill through cracks in the cave, simulating similar effects of sun through a stained-glass window. This coral cathedral makes up in sensation what it lacks in size, compared to an on-land house of worship. Located on the popular Agincourt Reef, this dive spot is breath-taking to say the least…. not that we want you to be without air!

For HABA to make the trip out to this reef, some 20 minutes north of Opal Reef, conditions have to be just right, which means a day at Cathedral is sure to be a great one! As the crew busy themselves with mooring the boat, scuba divers gaze longingly into the deep blue waters, knowing the visibility will be 30 metres at least.

The towering walls of coral are in fact various large bommies that look as though once they were all joined but have now been cracked apart. This gives the effect of underwater canyons wide enough for you to pass through. After a rough 10-minute swim north, divers encounter long tunnels, creating stunning swim-throughs to be navigated single-file. With a maximum depth of 24 metres, this dive site offers something to divers of all experience levels. Its position on the reef, near the northerly tip of Opal Reef, can at times create a moderate current, which divers can ride all the way back to the boat.

When you make the choice to dive out of Port Douglas, this is the kind of spot that exceeds your expectations. Come diving with us and see for yourself why this is the crew’s absolute favourite!
