Stinger-free waters
Stinger season has come to an end! Both guests and crew rejoiced this month as the smurf-like stinger suits were taken off of HABA, declaring the waters clear of jellyfish. Box jellyfish and the Irukandji jellyfish are typically present in the waters of the Great Barrier Reef in northern Queensland between November and May when the water is at its warmest and are commonly found near shore. Our dive sites at the Outer Reef, approximately 65 km/41 mi offshore, are less frequented by stingers, however, just as an extra precautionary measure all visitors travelling to the GBR are provided a lycra suit which covers the body from head to toe (also affectionately referred to as "Tele-tubbie" suit), and is included in your fare.
Port Douglas, also referred to as The Gateway to the Great Barrier Reef, is where the HABA adventure begins. Guests can look forward to snorkeling in the beautiful turquoise and deep blue waters of Opal Reef and Agincourt Reef in temperatures of 26 degrees C. Snorkeling and Scuba Diving in the month of May truly is a tropical experience!
