One large bommie split down the middle to form two circular chunks makes up this special dive spot. Ideal for both introductory divers and certified divers, Split Bommie can be categorized as a shallow wall dive.

Sweeping fan corals jut from the wall at various places, creating the perfect hiding spot for smaller fish. As the sun shines through the water, pastel purples and rusty reds draw you in to admire the structures of the various coral formations. Even curious snorkellers duck-dive down to get a quick glimpse of the life from a diver’s perspective.

When diving at Split Bommie, pay particular attention to the many crevices and cracks in the walls. Those keen to spot a lobster might well get lucky here! Cuttle fish hover over rocky patches, camouflaging themselves by matching their colour to the surroundings, and are often only spotted just before they dart away.

Depending on your air consumption, divers can swim the long way around the outer wall of Split Bommie or cut through the centre for a quicker return to the boat. With a maximum depth of roughly 18 metres and the most impressive life found within 10 metres, it’s not hard to fill your 45 minutes of dive time. This is another of the crew’s favourite sites for macro diving.
